A: Where were you on Sunday?
B: I went to New York.

Where were you on Sunday? 你星期日在哪﹖“Were”是“to be”的過去式。
“Were”這個字放在“you”你﹐你們﹐或許多人 ﹑“They” 或 “we”的後面。
其他代詞後要用。“was.”比如I, she, he, it 或單數名詞。比如﹕

“visit”參觀﹐訪問﹑看。
It was her birthday. 是她的生日去的。
“Birthday” 是生日的意思。這是個很常用的字。生日這首歌很流行﹐並被翻譯成多種文字 。

下面的兩句話雖然是一起說的﹐但時態不一樣。

下面的對話是問什麼事情做完沒有。也許你們中有的是父母或是爺爺﹐奶奶﹐你們得檢查你們的孩子做沒做完作業﹐打掃房間沒有﹐或做沒做其他的家務。我們聽一下這個對話﹐看看怎麼樣問這樣的問題。
A﹕John, did you clean your room today?
B: Yes, I did.
A: How about your homework?
B: I finished half of it.
A: Let me have a look.
B: OK, here you are.

John, did you clean your room today?“Did”是“do”的過去時﹐在這裡是助動詞﹐只起語法作用。句子中的動詞用原形﹐也就是字典裡的形式。因為did這個字已經說明了句子的時態。”clean” 的意思是打掃，“room”的意思是房間﹐這句話的意思就是約翰﹐你打掃你的房間了嗎﹖
你們可以用這個句形問很多問題。例如﹕
Did he wash his clothes?
他洗衣服了嗎﹖
Did they play basketball?
他們打球了嗎﹖
Did you go to the store?
你去商店了嗎﹖
Did she eat the apple?
她吃蘋果了嗎﹖

回答這些問題很容易。

homework 是作業的意思。How about your homework? 就是你的作業怎麼樣了﹖你做作業了嗎﹖
I finished half of it. finish 是完成的意思。half 的意思是一半。那麼 I finished half of it. 就是我做完了一半。

look. 是看的意思。have a look是個詞組﹐看一看。Let me have a look. 讓我看一看。這句話非常有用。

對話 (二)
A: Hello Lee Ren De.
B: Hi, Ding Hui.
A: What are you doing?
B: I’m playing cards.
A: I played cards yesterday.
B: Oh really? With who?

這個對話裡有一個生詞“cards”是扑克牌的意思。
下面的這句話用的是什麼時態﹖
I’m playing cards. 這是現在進行時。我們用這個時態表示現在正在發生的事情。
I played cards yesterday. 這是過去時﹐我們一看“yesterday”就知道是過去發生的事情了。
I play cards everyday. 這是一般現在時。 我們都知道 一般現在時表示常發生的事。everyday 這個字也能告訴你這是經常發生的事。
這個對話裡有一個新的問題﹐就是﹕with who?
“who” 的意思是誰 “With”的意思是和…誰在一起。“with who?” 的意思就
是和誰玩。回答是﹕I played cards with my mother and father.我 和我爸媽玩。
