我是鯝魚，悠遊在
這山中清淨的小溪裏
與大自然景物為友
以水中石苔裹腹
遠離傷害
遠離干擾
怡然自得
我是水中螢火蟲？
別那麼抬舉我
那太叫我受寵若驚了
你們透過溪水
看到的只是因為
我的嘴巴構造特殊
為了生存，翻身吃食
自然呈現的景象
不是故意表演
為什麼屈居深山野處？
是的。我的個性本來就是這樣
何況現在塵世太亂
幾乎所有環境都被攪混了
安寧居處難尋
只要能夠遠離傷害
只要能夠遠離干擾
有什麼地方不可居住？
有什麼地方不是天堂？
生活清苦又如何？
說我孤芳自賞又如何？
我本來就是稀有動物
我寧願居住在這蓬萊溪
以水中石苔裹腹
與大自然景物為友
悠游在這清淨的水中
悠悠在這美好的詩意中
注：蓬萊溪在苗栗獅頭山中，溪水清淨，鯝魚頗多。那是鯝魚保護區。

I am a Onychostoma barbatula, swimming leisurely
In the clear and clean creek in the mountain
Accompanied by sceneries of the great nature
I live on stone lichen in water
Away from hurt
Away from disturbance
Leisurely and at ease
Am I a firefly in water?
Do not favor me so much
I feel extremely flattered
Through creek water
You see me because
I have a very special mouth
I turn over to eat, for survival
It is a natural view
Not out of intentional performance
Why do you live a humble life in secluded mountains?
Yes. It is my personality
And the mortal world is in such a chaos
Almost all the environment is stirred and disturbed
It is difficult to find a peaceful shelter
So long as we can keep away from hurt
So long as we can keep away from disturbance
What place is not habitable?
What place is not a paradise?
What even if life is hard and simple?
What even if people say I indulge in self-admiration?
Essentially I am a rare animal
I would rather live at the Penglai Creek
I live on stone lichen in water
Accompanied by sceneries of the great nature
I am swimming leisurely in the clear and clean water

Remark: the Penglai Creek is in the Lion’s Head Mountain, where the water is clean and clear, and onychostoma barbatulas abound there. It is the protection zone for onychostoma barbatulas.
