李安、章子怡與周星馳：2006年金球獎亞洲卓越的被提名人
Holywood’s Golden Globe Awards seem to be going Asian this year, as filmmaker Ang Lee brings home no less than four awards for his picture “Brokeback Mountain.” Other Asian actors and filmmakers to highlight the show were Steven Chow of “Kung FU Hustle” fame, and “Memoirs Of A Geisha”s Ziyi Zhang.
【講解】
Filmmaker is one who produces or directs motion pictures. Filmmker就是指電影的製片人或導演，當然也可說是director.
“No less than” is used to show your surprise at a large number. No less than~, 多達，不少於，不少於，恰恰。
To highlight is to attract attention to or emphasize something important. 所以Highlight就是使顯著、使突出、強調的意思。

好萊塢金球獎似乎今年花落亞洲，因為導演李安以他的電影《斷背山》抱走了不下四座獎項。其他受矚目出席的亞洲演員與導演是《功夫》的周星馳，與《藝妓回憶錄》的張子怡。
A veritable Who’s Who of modern Asian cinema was on hand for the annual Golden Globe awards ceremony in Beverly Hills, California.
【講解】
Veritable是「名副其實」的、「可以稱的上是」的。Who’s Who is the name and position of each person, especially in an organization. Who’s who小寫的話，就是某個組織內的成員名錄。大寫的話就是「名人錄」，a book containing information about the world’s richest or most famous people，指世界上最富有、最有名的世界名人錄。
「電影」至少有三種講法，movie, film與cinema. 還有motion picture, big screen, silver screen，也都是指「電影」。

真可稱的上是現代亞州電影的名人錄，出席了每年在加州比佛利山莊頒發的金球獎。
Stephen Chow, director of the best foreign language nominee “Kung Fu Hustle” was just happy to be on the red carpet.
【講解】
Nominee, 是「被提名人」的意思，它的動詞是nominate，「提名」。這是字尾加-ee，成為人的造成方式。如appoint（指定、任命）, appointee（被指定人、受任命人）；divorce（離婚）, divorcee（離婚者）；train（訓練）, trainee（實習生）。

周星馳，以電影《功夫》一片受提名為最佳外語片導演，走在紅地毯上就是非常高興。
[Chow]:”It’s a big surprise and I never expected for this (to happen) so I’m excited, nervous . .. everything.”

周星馳說：「這真是一個大驚喜，我從未期望能得獎，所以幾乎每件事我都很興奮、緊張…。」
Novice ‘Geisha’ Ziyi Zhang seemed somewhat abashed yet thrilled when she crossed paths with George Clooney, and even more thrilled to be there as an unofficial representative of her homeland.
【講解】
Novice是指「新手、初學者」，A novice is a person who is not experienced in a job or situation. 當然章子怡已經很出名的，但在電影界，她畢竟還算是剛出道的晚輩。
“Geisha” is a Japanese woman trained in music and dancing whose job is entertaining men. Geisha是在音樂與舞蹈方面受過訓練的日本女人，她的工作是娛樂男性，稱為「藝妓」。所以藝妓可不是妓女，妓女是指prostitute, whore, 或hooker。
【譯文】:
新手《藝妓》章子怡似乎有些羞愧，但當她與喬志‧克隆尼走在一起時，就很興奮了；並且甚至以作為一位她祖國的非官方代表在這兒出席，感到更為興奮。
[Zhang]: “I’m very happy to be here at the ceremony. I’m very proud to be here as a Chinese actress and be with all these fantastic actors and to be nominated. Whatever the result is it’s very exciting.”
【譯文】:
章子怡說：「我非常高興能來到這個典禮上，能作為一位中國女演員與所有其他非常棒的演員在一塊，並且被提名，我感到非常驕傲。不論結果如何，都很令人興奮！」
When Ang Lee and his film were winners in quick succession, it seemed to confirm the going wisdom that the director and his provocative work of art had changed the minds of a lot of Americans.
【講解】
Succession, 這裡可沒有「成功」的意思，而是「連續」之意。Succession means something happening one after another.
Going wisdom該怎麼說呢？going是指「時下」，像going rate是說「現行利率」。wisdom一般作「智慧」解，但這兒只能當「看法、意見」講，也就是opinion。
Provocative這個字很漂亮，「挑釁」的意思, causing an angry reaction, usually intentionally，一種會引人生氣、憤怒的行為，經常是故事的。這裡當然是指 ”Gay” 的議題。
如果你問David老師對Gay or Lesbian的看法，David老師坦白說：No Good. 有些事情的對與錯，不能因為電影是否得獎來評斷的。那你說我為何認為Homo不對，從生物的天性上講，它是違反自然的，中國古老的智慧不是說嗎：「一陰一陽之謂道」嘛！人們讚揚「愛情」，但過於執著的感情，其實不是生命的自然狀態。

當李安與他的電影很快地連續獲獎，這似乎證明了時下的一種看法：這位導演與他挑釁性的藝術作品，已經改變了很多美國人的心。
[Lee]: “I think so, because people want to, I think we called it. I was receiving a film award so I give a lot of credit to my fellow filmmakers but I think the other half of the job is the audience, I think they’re thirsty for such movies, yeah. It’s very encouraging year for me. It warms my heart and gives me more faith to live on naturally, not only as a filmmaker but as a resident.”
【譯文】:
李安說：「我想是如此，因為是人們想要的，我認為我們把它說了出來。我得到了一項電影獎，所以我歸功於我的拍片夥伴，但是我認為另外一半是觀眾。我認為他們是很渴望像這樣的電影，對我來說這是個令人鼓舞的一年。這項獎溫暖了我的心，自然更加強了我從事電影工作的信念，不僅僅是作為一位導演，同時也是作為一位居民。」
