1. is written all over someone’s face

She was clearly appalled by the idea – it was written all over her face.

2. has a face like thunder/who looks like thunder

在英式英语中,has a face like thunder或者who looks like thunder,都是表达某人看起来非常愤怒,或者沉着脸的样子。

例句:

He walked into here with a face like thunder.

She didn’t say anything but she looked like thunder.

3. a long face / someone’s face falls

someone’s face falls

例句:

I told her Karl wasn’t coming and her face fell.

4. keep a straight face

I tried to pretend I was cross with her, but I couldn’t keep a straight face.

5. someone’s face was a picture

Her face was a picture when she saw what he was wearing.

6. make a face / pull a face

make a face/pull a face,通常表明我们不喜欢某样东西。

例句:

William looked at his plate and pulled a face.

7. puts a brave face on it/puts on a brave face

She must have been disappointed by the news but I think she put a brave face on it.

8. on the face of it

On the face of it, it seems like a really good offer, but I think we need to look into it.

9. take someone/something at face value

I took her at face value – I saw no reason to doubt what she said.
