Bernard Fehon, a financial planner, was impressed by Shen Yun’s final show of 2011 in Sydney, Australia.

各位读者好：
美国神韵艺术团刚结束澳洲的巡演，上周末来到台湾桃园首演（debut），场场爆满，享受过这场无与伦比（Incomparable）的神韵飨宴的人们，都会不约而同的惊呼：真是太精彩、壮观了（spectacular）！提醒大家千万不要错过这场史无前例（unprecedented）的演出。
我们今天就先从spectacular这个字谈起。-spect这个字根是“看”的意思。语言不是今天的发明，它是文明的产物，是从人与人的互动中产生的，从古代一直流传下来，随着人类活动的多样化与社会的复杂化，文字的内涵也在不断地增加、愈来愈丰富。
但即使在最简单的社会形式中，人也是一张嘴吧、两只眼睛、两只耳朵、两只手、两只脚…等等。那么嘴巴会说、眼睛会看、耳朵会听，手会拿、会丢、会射、会放置…，脚呢会走、会跑、来来去去…，那么最早期的字根就从中产生了。
那么“看”这个动作，可以是see, look, watch等字，但在古希腊罗马文字中，-spect, -vis也是“看”的意思，虽然在当代并不成为一个单字，然而却是很重要的字根。在漫长的语言形成过程中，许多有关“看”的衍伸字，就是从-spect, -vis衍伸而来。
这些动作字根，配上时间、位置、状态、数量……等字首，就会各自形成不同的意涵的字汇。举例如下：
常用字根 –spect=to look，看
1.inspect=in-+-spect, v.调查（to look into, 看进去）
2.respect=re-+-spect, v.尊敬（to look again, 尊敬所以再看一次）
3.suspect=su-(under)+-spect, n.嫌犯（to look under, 嫌犯眼睛都朝地下看）
4.expect=e(ex, out)+-spect, v.期望（to look out，向窗外望夫）
5.retrospect=retro-(back)+-spect, v. 回顾（to look back）

2.invisible: adj. 看不见的（in- 亦为否定字首）
