I swiftly went back to Beijing.
As soon as I stepped in Li’s home, Li told me: Eighty Beijing fellow practitioners had just been abducted into a Drug Addicts Detention Center by the police.
I instantly put down my suitcase and headed back out. I called Ian from a pay phone at the entrance to the alley.
Ian told me he was in Taiwan at the moment.
Then I called another Beijing-based American correspondent, who turned out to be on a business trip too.
“What should I do? What should I do? It will soon be midnight!….” My body was quivering with the glacial wind; my heart was anxious for my fellow practitioners behind bars.
“Sir, could you please…could you please…”
The correspondent immediately said to me kindly, “Don’t worry. I can ask my colleague to go.”
The next day, an American correspondent came to the Drug Addicts Detention Center and requested an interview about the case. All of the eighty Dafa practitioners were released immediately.
I never met the two American correspondents nor did I know their names.
I had always felt profoundly grateful to them and had always wished them the best.
