Anchor: In Geneva today, Chinese officials are facing questions from the United Nations Committee Against Torture.

The Committee Against Torture is responsible for monitoring whether member states are upholding the U.N. Convention Against Torture, which China has ratified.
反酷刑委員會負責監督會員國是否確實悍衛聯合國反酷刑公約，這項法律中共並已批准。
Nineteen human rights groups from around the world have submitted reports to the committee about China’s use of torture. These groups include the Conscience Foundation, Amnesty International, and Human Rights in China.
十九個來自世界各地的人權團體，提出關於中國使用酷刑的報告，這些團體包括良知基金會、國際特赦組織，和中國的人權團體。

The committee is examining China’s use of violence against dissidents, democracy activists, minority groups, human rights campaigners, and Tibetans.

Several of the submissions also include reports of torture and death in custody of Falun Gong practitioners , including reports related to organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners.

In an interview with the AP, one Amnesty International representative says the U.N. Committee needs to press Beijing for a response about reports that it is holding Falun Gong practitioners and others in covert black jails and hiring, quote, “thugs ” to attack and harass human rights lawyers.

The U.N. Committee Against Torture will adopt a concluding observation on China’s Fourth Periodic Report before the session ends on November 21st.
